Man who police say threatened woman, officers with a knife is behind bars

A man who allegedly threatened a woman with a knife outside a Mason City apartment building Thursday evening and squared off with police officers while still holding the weapon is facing felony charges.

Damon John Torres, 57, a resident of Shalom Towers 2, 304 Third St. N.E., was holding an open folding knife while standing in front of a woman seated on a bench up against the building shortly before 8 p.m. and told her he would kill her, according to a Mason City Police Department criminal complaint.

Torres also allegedly pushed a man who was standing in front of him onto the bench, causing him to strike his head against the brick wall behind the bench.

When two uniformed MCPD officers responded to the scene a few minutes later and knocked on his door, Torres reportedly ran out with a k
