TENNESSEE (KFVS) - Authorities in Tennessee say it’s more likely than not that famed Sheriff Buford Pusser killed his wife.

Pusser is the inspiration for the movie Walking Tall .

His wife, Pauline Pusser, was shot and killed in 1967 in what Pusser called an ambush targeting him.

However, during a news conference on Friday morning, August 29, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said a recent review of the evidence found inconsistencies in his version of events.

Pusser died in 1974 after a car crash, but if he were alive today, investigators say they would have enough probable cause to charge him with murder.
