The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating after a suspect fled from them at a high rate of speed, and abandoned their vehicle in St. John’s a short time later.

Just before 2 a.m. this morning police noticed the vehicle, which is believed to be connected to multiple property offences, driving west on Empire Avenue near Stamps Lane.

They say the damaged Honda Civic, which was missing a bumper, was being driven by a man with red hair and no shirt.

Officers tried to pull him over, but he fled at a high rate of speed and the officer did not pursue.

The suspect was later seen blowing through a red light at the Columbus Drive and Empire Avenue intersection.

The vehicle was later found abandoned, and still running, against an embankment on Old Pennywell Road.
