BOSTON — The Pirates have placed infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa on outright waivers, sources informed the Post-Gazette Friday afternoon.

The move comes two days prior to August 31, which marks MLB’s deadline for postseason eligibility. Any player acquired via outright waivers or any other method after August is ineligible to play in the postseason. Kiner-Falefa can continue playing for the Pirates while on outright waivers. Should no team acquire him by Sunday evening, the Pirates can still keep him on the active roster for the remainder of the year.
