Winter Fuel Payments scam warning issued for older people with mobile phones

A scam warning has been issued to older people living in South Gloucestershire over Winter Fuel Payments. South Gloucestershire Council has issued a warning to residents about scam text messages.

The local authority has warned that messages are being sent to peoples mobile phones falsely claiming to be from the DWP about the “Winter Heating Allowance”. A statement from the council said: "This is a scam, you do not need to apply for the Winter Fuel Payment.

"If you are eligible, this is paid automatically. If you do need financial support you can visit one of our One Stop Shops in Kingswood , Patchway or Yate , call us on 0800 953 7778.". Winter Fuel Payments help older people with their heating bills. I
