Rankin County authorities arrested a man wanted in connection with two murder cases early Friday morning, Aug. 29, at a Brandon hotel, after acting on a tip about his location.

The Rankin County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Matthew Brian Kidd, 35, via a press release and social media post. Kidd was later denied bond.

According to authorities, deputies responded to a call of a deceased person Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the 3300 block of Highway 80 in the county. Deputies responded and found William Earl Morris, who was believed to be targeted, dead in his home with gunshot wounds.

Investigators said they previously identified Kidd as a person of interest in the death of Morris, but there was not enough evidence to charge Kidd until Thursday, Aug. 28.
