LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) -- An e-bike battery exploded, burning someone in Leesburg.
The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue System (LCFR) said units responded to an e-bike explosion on Wednesday at around 4 a.m. in the 1200 block of Cannon Court. There, they found an e-bike on fire in the home's driveway.
Officials said the resident had woken up and found their e-bike on fire in the living room. It had been filling the house with smoke.
The resident took the e-bike outside, burning themselves in the process.
The e-bike continued to burn, and then the tires caught on fire along with other items in the home that were next to the e-bike.
The person who was burned declined medical treatment.
Two people and a dog were displaced. The damages are estimated to cost $10,000.
