The offseason is winding down and training camps are less than three weeks away. That means PTO season is in full swing.

A half-dozen players have already signed professional tryout contracts and more will follow.

Will the Detroit Red Wings bring a veteran to camp, which starts Sept. 18 in Traverse City?

If they do, it’ll likely be a forward. They already have eight NHL defensemen under contract after signing Travis Hamonic earlier this month.

So far, forwards Milan Lucic (St. Louis), Connor Sheary (Rangers) and ex-Red Wing Givani Smith (Carolina) as well as defensemen Jack Johnson (Minnesota), Oliver Kylington (Carolina) and Brendan Smith (Columbus), another former Red Wing, have signed PTOs.
