CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The man accused of randomly stabbing and killing a woman on the light rail in Charlotte will stay in jail.
Friday morning, a judge denied bond for Decarlos Brown after the victim’s family pleaded for Brown to remain in jail.
Brown is accused of killing Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old woman who left Ukraine for the Charlotte area three years ago to escape her country’s war with Russia.
The uncle of the victim spoke in court Friday, telling the judge he did not want the suspect to be a “menace” to others and possibly hurt someone else.
Her uncle told the judge she was a “sweet angel,” and the accused took a “bright, beautiful” woman away from their family, and “they’re heartbroken.”
Records show that Brown has a violent criminal history, including pris
