SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A new phone scam is targeting families and friends of inmates housed at the Greene County Jail.
According to the Greene County Sheriff's Office (GCSO), the scammers will pretend to be officals over the phone, demanding bond or GPS monitor payments in exchange for an inmate.
GCSO says you should do the following if you get one of these scam calls: • Ask for the caller’s name and the bonding company they claim to represent. • Hang up and research the company on your own. • Call the phone number listed on the company’s official website—not the number that called you.
Anyone who was a victim of these scams or has given money over the phone should contact local law enforcement and file a report, GCSO says.
