Seattle police have arrested a man in connection with the robbery of rapper Macklemore's home in Capitol Hill. The incident occurred on June 7, when two men entered the residence through an unlocked door and attacked a 22-year-old nanny with bear spray. The suspects stole thousands of dollars in personal items, including championship rings from the Seattle Sounders and Seattle Seahawks.
The suspect, a 29-year-old man from Renton, Washington, was taken into custody on August 21 during a raid by King County’s Valley SWAT team. This raid was part of an investigation into a separate robbery in Seattle. Authorities have not released the suspect's name.
Following the arrest, police discovered multiple stolen items at a jewelry store in south Seattle. Investigators believe these items were taken from Macklemore's home and other recent burglaries targeting celebrities. The jewelry store was searched after law enforcement received tips during their investigation.
Macklemore's nanny reported the robbery shortly after it occurred. She had just put the rapper's three children to bed when the attackers struck. Fortunately, neither the nanny nor the children were injured. The nanny managed to escape and call 911 from a neighbor's house.
Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, is a minority owner of the Seattle Sounders soccer team. He has prominently featured his Sounders championship ring in his music videos. In one song, he reflects on his success, saying, "I was supposed to be a one-hit ringer, now I’ve got too many rings and not enough fingers."
The investigation into the robbery continues as police work to identify any additional suspects involved in the crime.
