NORFOLK, Va. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Virginia Beach man Saturday at the Norfolk cruise terminal on outstanding felony forcible rape and sexual battery charges.
Officers identified 49-year-old Fard Shaheed Matthews while vetting passengers before they boarded a cruise ship on Saturday. His identity was confirmed, and the active warrant was verified with the Norfolk Police Department.
Matthews was then turned over to Norfolk police.
“These allegations, if proven true, are serious and reprehensible, and Customs and Border Protection officers are pleased to assist our local law enforcement partners in returning a fugitive to justice,” said Keri Brady, CBP’s acting area port director for Norfolk-Newport News.
