ST. LOUIS — The city's sheriff is prohibited from carrying a weapon while he faces a misdemeanor federal civil rights charge for handcuffing a local jail official, a judge ruled this week.
Magistrate Judge John M. Bodenhausen in a hearing Thursday said Montgomery's marijuana use, history of mental illness and the fact that he "flip-flopped" on some answers in an interview with federal pretrial services officers gave him pause. The misdemeanor civil rights charge also accuses Montgomery of misconduct while on the job, Bodenhausen said.
"All of these things together, coupled with the pressure of the case, I think that it's probably best not to have a firearm," Bodenhausen said.
