U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will join Erie’s Labor Day Parade on Sept. 1 .

Chavez-DeRemer is scheduled to ride with Teamsters Local 397 as part of the celebration, honoring America’s workers and marking the official kickoff of the nation’s 250th birthday commemoration .

The parade begins at 10 a.m. at East 10th and State streets and proceeds north on State Street to Perry Square. The parade is organized by the Great Lakes Building & Construction Trades' Council.

Chavez-DeRemer, 56, is a former Republican representative from Oregon and was one of three House Republicans to cosponsor the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, a sweeping pro-union bill.

She was nominated by President Donald Trump in 2024 and Chavez-DeRemer's appointment was confirmed by the Senate in March.
