HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Many folks have notices an increase in their insurance bills lately.

AAA Bluegrass said on thing that may influence the price hike is car theft.

Officials say a car is stole every 37 seconds in the United States.

Even if you have not been a victim of car theft, you can still be impacted through insurance.

Lori Weaver Hawkins with AAA Bluegrass said the are ways you can avoid car theft, even if it seems like basic knowledge.

“Never leave your vehicle running with the key in it. Whether it’s on the seat or anywhere in the car. That is just an open invitation,” she said. “A lot of times people think, ‘well no one is going to steal my vehicle out of my driveway while I go in to grab something out of the house.’ It happens.“
