The Sandy Springs City Council will hold a denial appeal over a special event permit requested by Holy Innocents Episcopal School for temporary lighting of a football field for its homecoming game and celebration.
The school applied for a special event permit on July 3, according to the council’s Aug. 19 meeting agenda. The city’s community development director denied the school on July 31 because special event permits are designed to allow for exceptions to regular ordinance standards. Staff cannot use the process to override zoning conditions, according to City Manager Eden Freeman’s memo to the council.
The school appealed the denial to Freeman, who upheld the community development director’s decision to deny the permit on Aug. 6.
