After Vaughan Rawes lost his mother to breast cancer when he was four years old, he developed a special bond with his father.

Mr. Rawes was an only child and he and his dad – Ian Rawes – did everything together. “From going to the grocery store to going on bike rides, to him being involved in all of my sporting teams, especially basketball,” recalled Mr. Rawes, 29, who grew up in Ottawa.
