Gov. Gavin Newsom said he was directing the California Highway Patrol to deploy officers to six regions around the state, including the Inland Empire, in an effort to help local departments and communities fight crime.

But it's unclear whether any of those extra CHP officers will be headed to the areas patrolled by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
