Sunbed wars have reached a whole new level after footage and images emerged of British holidaymakers sleeping outside on them in order to reserve a coveted spot.
Ben Smith from Sheffield was left stunned while on holiday in Tenerife after he made his way poolside three hours before it opened to find that the best loungers were already taken.
Despite it still being dark outside, the majority of poolside beds were occupied - apparently by guests who had slept on them overnight to save their place.
The 30-year-old holidaymaker described the bizarre scene as a "vicious circle".
