A man was fatally shot in Long Beach on Thursday afternoon.

The shooting occurred just before 4:30 p.mm. in the 200 block of West Broadway, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Responding officers found a man who had been shot, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. His identity has not yet been released.

"The preliminary investigation suggests the suspect approached the victim, shot him, and quickly fled the area," police said. "The motive for the shooting and additional circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation."
