LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Gun owners suing the City of Lincoln plan to take their case back to the Lancaster County District Court after an opinion from the Nebraska Supreme Court that found they have the right to sue.
The lawsuit, which was initially dismissed by a Lancaster County District Court judge, was filed in 2023 and took aim at city ordinances regulating gun possession and sale in the City of Lincoln.
It came after Gov. Jim Pillen signed LB 77 into law, allowing Nebraskans to carry a concealed handgun without a permit and said cities can’t make their own gun regulations.
Shortly after that law was passed, both Lincoln and Omaha mayors issued orders banning guns from city-owned buildings.
Those orders prompted the Nebraska Firearm Owners Association and four Lincoln people to sue
