ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -UAlbany students have been working on a virtual world since 2023. Called "All Hazards", its to collect data on how people respond to natural disasters.
The software presents itself like a video game as users navigate its namesake. There’s currently a chemical spill and hurricane scenario that offer different choices. It teaches you how to make the right one.
“VR provides this opportunity to simulate things in a more ethical way without putting people into an actual dangerous situation or going through experiences that are very sensitive after a disaster,” said Marsha Goodarzi, a PhD student.
Students recently tested their tech in Brooklyn and Atlanta to collect data on users. Their first participants: older adults. “For the most part, people think older adults are
