ASHBURN, Va. — Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jer’zhan "Johnny" Newton is a rookie no more, and if defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. is going to get the best out of his unit, his second-year lineman is going to be a big part of that success.

If you need to know this year’s version of the defender is different than the last, you just have to look at him. Commanders fans looking for his signature dreadlocks, a look he sported for six years, will be surprised to find that they’re no longer there.

Instead, the lineman has a new look and a new mindset as he looks to make good on Washington not only investing a second-round pick in him but also having a first-round grade on him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
