PLAINS - The Knowles Fire, six miles east of Paradise, has burned 3,822 acres and remains 47% contained.

The Kookoosint Fishing Access Site has been reopened for public use.

The pre-evacuation status for McLaughlin Creek was lifted on Thursday.

Fire managers report that pockets of heat remain along the northwest perimeter of the fire, where steep terrain and narrow roads make getting water to the area difficult.

There are 185 people assigned to the Knowles Fire, which sparked on August 17.
