LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — This bridge over Huntington Creek in Luzerne County reopened on August 7th, a week ahead of schedule, PennDOT says.

PennDOT representative Lonell Tomaine says it's one of three bridges in our area damaged by flash flooding on July 14th.

"Department staff were immediately deployed to begin assessing the damage. This includes members from our design, construction, and maintenance divisions who determined the required repairs," says Tomaine

PennDOT says 635 vehicles travel over this bridge in Sweet Valley every day. After flood waters raged through the area, the existing stone masonry arch was severely damaged, closing the bridge for a full replacement. PennDOT Secretary Mike Caroll says a detour was quickly set in place.
