DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- Thinking of getting on an electric bicycle or scooter? There's some things you should consider before starting.

Dr. Shobhan Vachhrajani, neurosurgeon at Dayton Children's, said the emergency department has experienced around an 80% uptick in injuries related to e-bike sand e-scooters.

In June, July and August, so far, alone, 48 of 81 of the visits have occurred.

"This year it's end of August now, right, and we've seen about 80 of them this year, whereas last year we saw 60 total for the whole year," said Vachhrajani.

Vachhrajani said one of his concerns is the speed of the electric equipment compared to regular bicycles.

"I think, because of the speed, I think because of the risk of collisions with other motor vehicles, you know, that's what's putting these kids
