KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — JD Gillum is stepping into the spotlight as the new starting quarterback for Anderson County High School — but being a ‘Mav’ has been in his blood since he was born.
“Growing up here, since I can remember, I've always, like, this is like my second home. I spend more time here than I do in my room,” JD said.
JD is the son of Anderson County head coach Davey Gillum — who’s more likely to call him by his full name out on the field: John David.
He’s been hearing that on repeat since his dad first put a football in his hand at just two years old. In fact, the week Davey coached his very first game at AC was the same week JD was born in 2009.
