STOKESDALE, N.C. — Parents and neighbors say traffic near Stokesdale Elementary School is an accident waiting to happen. They say the daily backup frustrates drivers and puts both motorists and pedestrians at risk.

The problem centers around the intersection of Angel Pardue Road and Athens Road, less than a quarter mile from the school. At drop-off and pick-up times, cars line up for more than half a mile, both down Athens Road and onto Highway 158. Neighbors say drivers often cross the center double yellow lines on Athens or pull into yards to get around the congestion.

“You know, it’s either backed up on Athens or backed up on 158, and it’s just, it’s causing a real hazard to people,” one parent waiting in the car line said.
