ST. PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – Sources indicate that Governor Tim Walz had been making calls to DFL lawmakers Friday afternoon, and that his team is making plans for a special session on guns in the month of September.

The news comes just two days after a mass shooting in South Minneapolis, and amid calls from his party to pass a total ban on assault weapons and extended magazines.

Walz posted on X this afternoon.

Details are limited at this time, but such a special session would likely take place in mid-September at the earliest.

It’s not immediately clear what a special session would look like. Right now, several unfilled vacancies in the legislature put the DFL at a disadvantage.
