The first game of the 2025 season will be a litmus test for the Rutgers fanbase’s feelings about this fall’s outlook.

Should the Scarlet Knights be encouraged by their offense, which showed signs of being the best unit in Piscataway in nearly two decades? Or should they be concerned about their defense , which was shredded by Ohio and star quarterback Parker Navarro during a too-close-for-comfort 34-31 win at SHI Stadium on Thursday night?

“We have a lot of work to do,” Schiano said. “I think our coaches, our players, everybody knows that. But I do know this: they are hungry to do it and we’ll get better.”
