Surrey Food Bank distributed 201,000 pounds of food in July to nearly 20,000 people, including 502 new households.
This July, the food bank gave away 70,000 pounds more food than the same time last year, said Surrey Food Bank executive director Kim Savage.
"The numbers tell one story, but what they really mean is full cupboards, fewer tough choices at the checkout, and families able to sit down to a meal together," Savage said. " As we step into fall and move toward Thanksgiving, I’m hopeful knowing this community will continue to look out for one another."
The food bank is also seeking volunteers; the next application window is open from September 15 to 26. Visit surreyfoodbank.org/get-involved/volunteer to learn more.
