This afternoon Rep. Al Green, D-Tex., sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s dismissal of Federal Reserve Governor Dr. Lisa Cook, calling the move “unjustified” and warning it threatens the central bank’s independence and U.S. economic stability.

He held a 2 p.m. news conference at his Houston district office; and Green said Cook’s removal — which she is challenging in court — was based on “unproven allegations” of mortgage fraud and lacked the due-process protections he said should accompany any effort to remove a Senate-confirmed governor.
“Unproven allegations do not constitute cause to terminate under the law,” he said.
