JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — When longtime Johnson County Attorney Christopher Cooke heard the allegations against Sheriff Adam King , it meant taking on a case against a friend.
“At some point in time, you have to put friendship aside and do the right thing,” Cooke said. “I was personally shocked to hear of the allegations. He's been a prominent figure in the county for a long time."
Sheriff King is accused of abusing his office and sexually harassing employees — charges he strongly denies. The allegations are being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
In a court document, a female employee alleged King repeatedly made inappropriate comments at work about women’s physical appearance, weight, clothing, and makeup.
“Nobody's above the law,” said Johnson County Judge Christopher Boedeker.
