CLEVELAND, Ohio — Before the century-old Hilliard Road Bridge can be replaced, Cuyahoga County must first close a $32 million funding gap — and officials are eyeing a mix of state and federal sources to do it.

The county’s strategy includes four possible options: reapplying for up to $33.8 million from a federal bridge program it failed to win in 2024; seeking an additional $20 million from Ohio’s local major bridge program; pursuing $7 million in 2026 from the Ohio Public Works Commission; and reapplying for up to $5 million from the County Engineers Association of Ohio program.
