The active shooter alert that prompted a heavy law enforcement presence at Newman Regional Health Thursday was triggered by a routine installation of hand sanitizer stations by a third party vendor according to a press release by NRH Public Information Officer Steven Bazan.
NRH maintains several active shooter alarms throughout its facilities that when set off prompt overhead announcements, cell phone notifications, and notify law enforcement.
The routine installation of the hand sanitizer stations was near one of those alarm switches, and after contact was made with the wiring behind the wall, the alarm was triggered.
