To curb DUI-related crashes over Labor Day weekend , the Sober Ride Home program is back, offering Uber vouchers to keep impaired drivers off the road.

The program provides $20 vouchers from 7 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. each day, Friday through Labor Day, in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.

“The goal is to prevent tragedies for people who may be out celebrating over the holiday weekend,” said Andrew Bomberger, executive director of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, in a news release.

Bomberger said impaired drivers are involved in 40% of fatal crashes and 30% of serious injury crashes in the region.

The program runs during peak DUI hours, and local bars and restaurants will help promote it.
