EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A strong first half leads Michigan State to a season-opening win over Western Michigan.

The Spartans led 21-0 at halftime and took down the Broncos, 23-6, on Friday night at Spartan Stadium.

The only points WMU scored were on a pick-six in the fourth quarter by safety Tate Hallock, who played at MSU for four seasons and is the older brother of MSU women's basketball standout Theryn Hallock.

At halftime, the Spartans had 130 rushing yards, which is the most they've had at halftime since the 2021 season opener. Sophomore running back Makhi Frazier ran for 103 yards on 14 carries and scored the third and final touchdown of the game for MSU.

Fellow sophomore running back Brandon Tullis ran in the first touchdown of the game and had 52 yards on seven carries.
