Often, food giveaways for fire victims consists of canned goods, or other types of off-the-shelf groceries.
The one sponsored by the Hollywood Food Coalition was different.
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Altadena, partakers lined up to choose from boxes filled with fresh, organically grown produce — from bananas and peaches to potatoes, celery, peppers and onions, said Linda Pianigiani, associate director of development and communications.
“The idea is to support the Altadena community with healthy food, to take one thing off their plate of concerns and help them with their bottom line,” said Pianigiani on Friday, Aug. 29.
“This way, the food they put on the table is healthy food. And they don’t have to worry about spending money to feed their families,” she added.
