KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Tigers had been holding out at least a sliver of hope that right-hander Beau Brieske could somehow get himself healthy and return to the bullpen before the end of the season.
That hope has been dashed.

“He had a setback in his bullpen session earlier in the week,” Greenberg said. “It’s likely to keep him out four to six weeks and where we are on the calendar, there’s not going to be enough time.”
Brieske has been dealing with elbow soreness. When asked if surgery would be an option, Greenberg said, “Not yet.”
Brieske, 27, was a vital contributor to the Tigers’ run last season, allowing one solo home run and collected two saves in six postseason appearances covering six innings. But he never got untracked this season.
