BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Youth violence has been an ongoing concern in Baton Rouge, but one man believes he’s found a way to reach young people before they fall off track.
Michael “A.V.” Mitchell co-launched a program called “A Fighting Chance,” which uses boxing as a tool to mentor kids and teach them life skills.
“For me, it’s not about turning kids into fighters. With boxing, you have to work hard. Sometimes you get knocked down, and you have to get back up. Those are lessons you can use in everyday life,” said Mitchell.
The program focuses on discipline, resilience, and patience. Mitchell said his goal is to help kids channel their energy in positive ways and give them the confidence to overcome challenges.
