The C.M. Russell High football team went into halftime on a low note.

Over the final 24 minutes, the Rustlers were hitting the highs.

CMR scored 28 unanswered points Friday night at Memorial Stadium, taking down defending state champion Helena Capital 28-14 in a season-opening nonconference contest.

Quarterback Caleb Taylor threw a pair of touchdown passes to tight end Blake Herda — both in the second half — and ran for a third, while tailback Jentri Nelson ran for another for the clincher in the fourth.

The Rustlers were in a hole early despite a promising first drive, with Capital executing a double pass on its first play from scrimmage as Keenan Green got behind the defense for a 65-yard gain. Six plays later, Linder found the end zone from 2 yards out.
