DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The Twin Ports LGBTQIA+ community is celebrating Duluth-Superior Pride with events all weekend to celebrate diversity.
The celebrations come at a delicate time for the community after the shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School Wednesday, in which the shooter was transgender.
The shooting has sparked anti-trans rhetoric on social media making this is a difficult time for the community.
Board Chair for Trans Northland, Heather Thonvold, said in the wake vitriol on social media, it’s critical for the whole LBTQIA+ community to support each other.
“It can have really negative impacts if we take one aspect of the shooters identity and try to apply to an entire group of people,” said Thonvold.
