Coming off back-to-back state championship game losses, Lena-Winslow's football stars insisted they were extra motivation this offseason.

It showed through in a big way during a 50-12 win at Forreston in Week 1.

"It feels pretty good," said senior halfback Alec Schlichting, who had just 10 carries but scored on three of them and rushed for 151 yards. "The way last year ended, it just got us all fired up for tonight."

Schlichting's backfield mate, Aiden Wild, had 142 yards on his 13 carries, scoring once in the Aug. 29 season-opening win as well. Le-Win came out strong, and never gave Forreston a chance.

"That'll do," Wild said. "This definitely comes from that fire under our butt the entire offseason. We were ready." Looking for a free mini puzzle? Play the USA TODAY Quick Cross now.
