NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A senior from Fox Creek almost didn’t get to join his team this year.
Riley Howell has been playing football his entire life, but an MRI that confirmed a brain cyst almost prevented him from playing ever again.
In July, Howell discovered a bump on his head during a simple game of hide and seek, one that required immediate surgery.
“Got 22 staples in my head. They did the MRI scan, and I had a brain CYST, says so. Then I had to have surgery to remove the brain cyst. I really thought I was gonna play football again, but God gave me the opportunity to play. So I’m thankful for that,” said Howell. “It was like depression really like because I thought I wanna see the field no more. I really thought I was gonna like my last time ever playing football again.”
