GRAND FORKS — Red River felt dejected after last year's Division AA championship loss to West Fargo Horace.
The Roughriders were given a chance to avenge that feeling right away in 2025 with a championship game rematch. This time, it was up to the younger players on the roster to pick up where their predecessors left off.
There were bright spots on defense, but a stagnant offense wasn't enough to keep up with Horace in a season-opening 33-6 loss.
The Roughriders forced two early turnovers, but totaled just 33 yards and couldn't take advantage.
"Everyone that is a fan looks at the game as a rematch of the state title but we're both different teams," Red River coach Vyrn Muir said. "We're a different team and they are a different team than they were last year. They bring back a little mo
