SHIRLEY ( 25News Now ) - McLean County Animal Services has transitioned to a “new and improved location,” according to county officials.
The 11,000 square foot property at 13060 E. 850 North Rd. in Shirley is now taking appointments.
The former facility, built in 1993, sustained structural damage from flooding in 2021.
The new building cost $7 million, with $3 million of that coming from local taxpayers. The rest came from federal government in the form of American Rescue Plan dollars.
MCAS Director Marshell Thomson said the upgrades include an air filtration system, more energy-efficient lighting, and overhead hoses.
Thomson said the shelter is already at capacity, holding 80 cats and 50 dogs.
