Runners seeking a challenge that varies from the flat courses other cities might offer will descend upon Charleston on Saturday for the 52nd Charleston Distance Run.

Billed as “America’s 15-Miler," the Charleston Distance Run offers a scenic race that begins at the Capitol and includes tours along the riverfront, downtown, various neighborhoods and challenging hills.

The event doesn’t just draw folks from around the Mountain State, but also from other areas of the country.

Event spokeswoman Victoria Barksdale said 720 runners from 20 states -- with half of those signed up for the 15-mile run -- registered for the race ahead of Friday’s noon deadline.

Dylan Gearinger came from his native Philadelphia in 2024 to win the 15-mile race in 1:20:26.
