Kindergartners in the Old Rochester Regional School District were accompanied by local police and school officials on their first day of school to help them feel welcome and comfortable.

Superintendent Michael Nelson, Rochester Police Chief Michael Assad Jr., and Lieutenant Zack Dupere joined the students on Bus 5, boarding with backpacks and lunch boxes.

Driver Annie picked up the trio outside the Rochester Police station before stopping to pick up students.

Chief Assad said the idea came to him to help make the kids feel welcome and comfortable. It was the third day overall in the district, but the first for the kindergartners.
