The 49th annual Labor Day Liftoff hot air balloon festival kicked off in Colorado Springs early Saturday morning at Memorial Park.

It was a windy morning, and Saturday's launch was canceled due to weather. Organizers were weighing the possibility of a static display on the field.

Balloon flights depend on safe conditions. High winds, low cloud ceilings, poor visibility, rain, thunder, or lightning can ground launches. Organizers say weather conditions require:

Winds under 8 mph at the surface

Clear skies with at least 5 miles of visibility

No rain, thunder, or lightning

Cloud cover is evaluated the morning of each launch

Vendors, kids’ activities, and a beer garden are all open. Here’s a look at the schedule for the rest of the day (Sunday's schedule will be similar).
