A former student at Southeast Guilford High School was arrested Friday night after he told authorities that he had a gun at the school’s football game.
Octavius Mustophidae Benton II, 22, is charged with possession of a weapon on school property and carrying a concealed weapon, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said.
Benton was taken to the Guilford County Jail and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, the sheriff’s office said.
Benton is scheduled to appear on Sept. 30 in Guilford District Court.
A security scanner at the school indicated an incoming spectator could have a weapon in his possession, the sheriff’s office said.
Benton later told a school resource officer, a Guilford County deputy, that he had a gun in his waistband, the sheriff’s office said.
